    Quick Guide

What counts as an EBT grocery store

An EBT grocery store is any retailer authorized by the USDA to accept SNAP benefits for household food purchases. That includes national chains, regional supermarkets, neighborhood markets, ethnic groceries, dollar stores that carry food, and many corner stores.

You can use EBT for any food meant to be prepared and eaten at home — produce, meat, dairy, bread, cereal, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, and food-bearing seeds. You cannot use EBT for hot prepared food (unless your state has the Restaurant Meals Program), alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, or non-food items.
